1000th Food Parcel Delivered!
Posted on: 20 September 2015
Alhamdulillah we were delighted to deliver our 1000th Food Parcel this month since we launched our food operation back in 2013. The project was inspired by an article in the Nelson leader which reported some children in Pendle were being sent to school with just biscuits in their lunch bags.
Nelson based Israr Raja played a great role in developing links with local mosques and used his expertise working for Himmah in Nottingham to help launch the foodbank and give it some of its early and critical momentum.
Since then the foodbank has developed links with local organisations, schools, businesses, supermarkets and also the public sector as well as launching healthy eating courses tailored to our food parcel recipients. One of our goals over the next 12 months is to create an allotment project so people are able to learn new skills, socialise and hopefully grow local produce. We have already secured the allotment and look forward to developing our foodbank further.
The project would not be possible without the great support of our volunteers - administrators, project leaders and delivery drivers - so a great thankyou and here is to the next big goal - 10,000 food parcels!
